January 18, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free
For ADULTS ONLY: Be better equipped to help young people thru their losses such as divorce, pet loss, moving or the death of a loved one.

Helping Children with Loss is for adults to discover how to communicate with the children/youth in their care, about any losses they have experienced and those they might face. Using the book “When Children Grieve”, you will be given the tools to make a significant difference in their progress and well-being.

Ideal for:

  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • Grandparents
  • Youth Workers
  • DayCare Workers
  • Social Workers and many more

Whether the child/youth is experiencing a bereavement or other significant emotional loss (following divorce, a move, starting or changing school, or being bullied) This workshop will give you the tools to make a significant difference in their progress and well-being.

Established for over 30 years, newly updated and revised into just 4 sessions this comprehensive, structured program will:

•Enable staff to identify symptoms and behaviors caused by grief & loss

•Increase confidence in talking about difficult and painful feelings with children

•Increase confidence & give a structure for talking to a child who has experienced loss

•Know what to say/not say to parents/relatives who are also grieving

Principal Deborah Brown said:

“We now have 14 staff members at Buckton Vale School who have completed the ‘Helping Children with Loss’ course. It dispels the myths so engrained in modern society and gives ideas on how we can actively support young people through their losses such as divorce, pet loss or the death of a loved one. I cannot recommend it enough.”
